Class Descriptions
Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo, Combination classes are a great way for students to experience different types of dance in a one-hour instructional time. Classes are available for students 3 – 7 years old. The main focus of combination classes is on students having fun and enjoying dance as an everyday activity. Class placement is based on age as well as a student's ability to learn.
Tap Classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.
Ballet - Ballet Technique is the foundational principles of body movement and form used in ballet. It is an important aspect of all dance genres and styles because ballet is the foundation of dance and puts great emphasis on the method and execution of movement. Kesha studied and teaches the Vaganova method, which fuses elements of traditional French style from the romantic era with the athleticism and virtuosity of Italian technique.
Lyrical/Contemporary – Lyrical dance is a style of dance created by merging ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical dancing is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song. Ballet technique is required to take lyrical dance as it has its basis in ballet, but other styles are mixed in for a unique fusion.
Hip-Hop/Jazz – Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. Hip-hop is a very energetic form of dancing. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities.
